Our last Week in Madrid
We woke up to news on Monday that the Parade would be that night, so we adjusted our plans and picked a spot so that we be a part of the fun. We waited at our spot for about two and a half hours before the parade made it to us and the streets were packed! We were able to see from pretty close to the buses and right as they passed a parade of fans filled the streets following them. It looked like the fans kept going for blocks and blocks behind them as they headed to the city center. We didn’t join in but headed back to the apartment to watch the coverage on the news!
With only a few days left in Madrid, we headed to as many places as we could.
Steinar had designed a multi-stop tapas tour so we could try some of the Madrid favorites we hadn’t tried yet and some of our favorites. On this tour we got: cod croquettes, Torreznos (fried thick bacon), albondigas (meatballs), and tortilla de patata. We took a short break to siesta then continued for a late dinner where we got some more patatas bravas and toastas.
The next morning we headed to Matik Studios where they had Madrid themed photo strips that we wanted to get as a memento of the past month in the city. We were even able to make them into a key chain as well. After a quick snack we headed over the Cerralbo Museum and explored the insanely decorated house. The rooms all felt like a royal palace with the amount of gold and marble covering the house. We headed to Bee Beer Debod, so Steinar could try the spanish craft beers and then ended our evening at El Rey De Los Tacos which is directly below our apartment. It was very cheap and VERY good. Steinar and I both agreed it’s a good thing we came here at the end of the trip or we would have been back multiple times.
We woke up Friday went to get some bagels for breakfast and headed to Parque de Retiro so we could get on the little boats. It’s only €6 for 45 minutes on the water, and it was windy enough that we had to agree we had enough rowing experience to move to boat (LOL). We (Steinar) rowed us around and we enjoyed being able to see the very unique ways some people were rowing their boats. After parking our boat, we headed on one last walk across Madrid and started to pack. We headed out to celebrate our last night at the restaurant we had been to just two nights before. It’s the only place we went to twice but we just had to go back! We were apparently too excited and got there before opening, so we stopped at another bar to try their “spicy vermouth” and kill some time before dinner. The vermouth was very spicy but delicious. We saw the jar it was served from and the entire bottom of the bottle was FULL of hot peppers.
Saturday we packed everything up to head to Florence and spent our last outing getting churros at the historical San Gines which was a perfect ending to our stay! We loved our time in Madrid and can’t wait to see what all our next stops have in store for us!
