Our first two Weeks pt 1

Hello! As the rush of the first two week have finally worn off, we’ve finally got some time to update how it’s been!

We kicked off the trip with some extra chaos. Mr. Kuzco’s paperwork didn’t arrive before we left so he had to stay at the with family while we headed off. Steinar is flying back to Indy to get him in two weeks - fingers crossed it all works out then!

Day 1 & 2 : Oslo

We landed in Oslo late Wednesday afternoon, so most of the exploring had to wait until Thursday. We started off the morning with a walk to the Vigeland Museum and Park where there were many summer camps for kids all having the time of their lives!

From there we walked straight to Norway’s Resistance Museum, and spent about an hour and a half exploring all of the exhibits before heading to Vippa for lunch. We popped over to walk up the Oslo Opera House and then headed to the National Museum to explore for a while before they closed. The top floor had an exhibit about death with pieces spanning time and cultures which was incredibly interesting.

Day 3 - 5 : Stavanger

Our travel day started bright and early with a 7:20am train to Stavanger. The train took up most of our day as we spent 7 hours heading across the country. Once we arrived and got our rental car it was time for dinner and getting ready for another early morning the next day.

We started our first full day in Stavanger with a kayaking trip in the Lysefjord in the morning and it was so beautiful. While it was cloudy for most of our time on the water, there wasn’t any rain so it ended up working out perfectly! After getting out of the water we drove the rest of the road toward the end of the fjord and saw many more small lakes through the mountains.

The next day was full of hiking as we went hiking on two separate trails for the day. We started at bjørndalsfjellet in the morning and the trail was pretty busy as it was a Sunday morning. There were quite a few small ladders and bridges to cross as we headed through the trail. Steinar found a large rock so of course he had to see if he could climb it as we took a short break before heading up the steep portion of the trail. Once we got to the top of the trail, we had a great view of all of the surrounding fjords and towns. You could even see massive windmills off in the distance past some of the lakes. After taking tons of pictures at the top, we headed back to the trail head to drive home for lunch.

After lunch and a quiet afternoon, we started the hour long drive to Preikstolen aka Pulpit Rock for our second hike of the day. We made it to the trailhead around 8pm and it ends up working out perfectly as we avoided most of the crowds. It took us about 90 minutes (and what felt like a million steps) to climb up the viewpoint but it was well worth it. By the time we got to the top around 9:30, there were only about 15 other people with us. We were able to take tons of pictures before heading down as the sun started to set! Every portion of the hike had a different feel and there were so many amazing views on the way up as well. We headed back to the house very excited for the dinner we had waiting there for us and headed to bed exausted after such a busy day!

Our last day in Stavanger, we spent the morning walking around town and grabbing lunch before starting on the drive to Bergen. Steinar got to see his favorite thing - lots of cruise ships - but I think the sandwiches for lunch made up for it.

The drive to Bergen included lots of tunnels, 2 ferries and a lot of sheep on the side of the road! We made it just in time to head to the top of the Fløibanen funicular to see the city from above and then head to dinner at Bryggeloftet & Stuene which was delicious. After dinner we headed back to rest up for the next day!

Stay tuned for updates on week 2 when we’ll head to the Arctic Circle !
